Nature Hot Spot: 
Ismaning reservoir (Ismaninger Speichersee)

The reservoir of Ismaning is located north of Munich, only a 30min drive from the city center. It is identified as EU bird sanctuary and international nature reserve as per the Ramsar convention.

 

It is home to many waterfowl, especially during moulting times, thousands of bird are gathering in the area.

 

My favourite spot for birding is to park in the parking spot south of the bridge, which is dividing the west and the east basins. Waterfowl are gathering in the south of the East basin, there is a small islands right near the parking spot that offers a good location for watching the birds.

The southern part of the west basin is a nature reserve, and cannot be entered, to protect the area and its nature.
